The three-time Premier League title winner is the latest sportsman to dip into the Manchester property game

Following in the footsteps of former United defender Gary Neville and English cricket captain Freddie Flintoff, Man City captain Vincent Kompany is the latest sportsman to dip into the Manchester property game.

The 32-year-old Belgian international - who last year gained a MBA from the Alliance Manchester Business School - is co-director of the M4nchester Two development company alongside seasoned property professional, Nathan Ezair.

The pair have lodged plans for a new red brick, nine-storey scheme on Bengal Street in Ancoats. Designed by Mecanoo architects, the development features 75 apartments, 24,000 sq ft of office space and roof gardens.

Ezair has form in Ancoats, having been involved in projects including Flint Glass Wharf and the Ice Plant - which are managed by Ezair's Northern Group.

A statement on Northern Group's website reads: 'We are aiming to add to our existing Ancoats portfolio by converting an existing and under-utilised brownfield site into a well-designed, well-used and well-managed space... '

Kompany's other business interests include Bonka Circus, a communications and advertising agency with offices in Manchester and Belgium, and BX Brussels, a Belgian football league side which Kompany purchased in 2013.

The three-time Premier League title winner is not the only Man City party to have an interest in the development of Ancoats. In 2014, the Abu Dhabi United Group, which bought the football club in 2008, partnered with Manchester City Council to establish the Manchester Life development company - which has pledged to build 1000 new homes in the area.
