Ancoats' award-winning pizza joint is heading deep into the city centre
Following an investment by hospitality group Mission Mars – the operator behind Trof, Gorilla and the wildly successful Albert’s Schloss – Rudy’s, the award-winning neighbourhood Neapolitan pizza parlour, have confirmed that their second city centre branch will be open by mid-March.
The new restaurant will occupy a ground floor space in Petersfield House on Peter Street, in the former Army Careers centre between Albert’s Schloss and Brewdog.
Rudy’s (reviewed here) has been a roaring success story since it opened on Cutting Room Square back in 2015, thanks to the popularity of its Neapolitan pizzas cooked in a wood-burning stove.
It can perhaps lay claim to the food and drink-led renaissance now enveloping Ancoats, which has since become a destination for top quality independent restaurants, cafes and bars, including Seven Bro7hers, Squid Ink and Second City Bar.
In 2018 alone, Castlefield ale haven, Cask, and Piccadilly sourdough bakery Pollen, have announced plans to move to the area. Rumours suggest King Street's Spanish success story, El Gato Negro, may soon follow.
Confidential understands that Mission Mars – formed in 2015 when Revolution bar founders Neil Macleod and Roy Ellis acquired a 50% stake in Manchester’s Trof Group – now intend to help grow the pizza brand across the North West with the help of Rudy's founders Jim Morgan and Kate Wilson.
Elsewhere in Manchester's fecund pizza scene, Blend pizzeria opens in Didsbury Village on the 7th Febraury, while the nation's first '5k Pizza Run' rolls into town on 12 May... don't ask why.
Rudy's opens on Peter Street in mid-March.
