Ready Steady Cook-style event challenges head chef to create a banquet using only food brought in by customers

SAID to be inspired by American TV drama, Mad Men, perhaps it figures, then, that The Pen & Pencil often errs on the barmy side. From a ‘Trumpageddon’ burger to a cheesy pop-up festive bar and a hip-hop Christmas party, this Northern Quarter restaurant-bar clearly likes to do things differently.

Still, their latest project could be the maddest yet.

Pen & Pencil are challenging head chef Danny to devise a banquet using only food brought in by punters. He will then be expected to cook, compile and serve up his spontaneous feast within the hour. Talk about under pressure.

...as for a starters and mains, well, that's up to you. Poor old Danny boy

Attendees will be asked to bring five ingredients for the Ready Steady Cook style event (defrosted and with a maximum half hour cooking time for obvious reasons), with Danny only allowed to add small extras like herbs, oils and spices.

Taking place from 6.30pm on Wednesday 22 February, the £16 event includes a glass of Prosecco on arrival and a dessert from the normal menu to round off the evening... as for a starters and mains, well, that's up to you. Poor old Danny boy.
