Cookery classes are go, with six dates to decide between

LEARNING a nifty new skill is often a bulletpoint on our list of resolutions, but, to be honest, we’ve got issues with commitment. Once the boxfresh high of our Moleskine notebook and propelling pencil combo has worn off and we’re left with the thought of lessons dragging on and mucking up our social diary, holiday plans and, dammit, Netflix schedule every week for the rest of the year… somehow the shine is less, er, shiny.

Give us a one-off class, on the other hand, and we’re listening. Give us a one-off class where you come away with three new things to show off, and we’re all ears. So imagine our joy when we heard about the brand-new one-off Saturday-morning Tampopo Cookery School classes, turning on the gas this spring, with six confirmed dates to choose from so far.

Offering fresh Eastern cooking across its four Manchester restaurants, Tampopo is renowned for taking diners on a culinary adventure around East Asia, serving up bowls of food inspired by the exciting cuisines of Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. At the Tampopo Cookery School, you’ll learn to prepare and cook three authentic dishes (including vegetarian options) – some from the existing menu and some from the restaurant’s extensive archive of dishes – and get the chance to pick up plenty of tips and tricks.

The cookery schools will be run by Jackie Kearney, award-winning cookbook author and MasterChef finalist, who has worked with Tampopo on its menu development over the years, or David Fox, Tampopo’s co-founder. David says: “After many years travelling around SE Asia and attending cooking schools from Bali to Bangkok it is great to bring this back to Manchester. Our first cookery school includes Thai and Malaysian classics including Rendang, Nasi Goreng and Pad Thai.”

All classes start at 10am – just pick between Tampopo Corn Exchange(16, 17 May and 6 and 7 June) and Tampopo Trafford Centre (18 April, 18 and 19 July and 25 and 26 July) – and are priced at £65 each, which includes welcome drinks and lunch.
