They’re inviting punters to pig out in the palatable pad

Remember reading Hansel and Gretel when you were little? And how appealing the idea of a house made of gingerbread and sweets sounded? Just imagine lying on a marshmallow sofa, gazing out of glacier mint windows with shortbread frames.

Well, in a possible attempt to solve the current housing problem (whilst simultaneously ignoring the current food waste problem), Deliveroo are going to build an entirely edible house in MediaCity next week.

Deliveroo's sketch of how the house might (but probably won't) look

To celebrate the fact that Manchester has just been identified as the UK city which loves British dishes the most, the digestible dwelling will have a Yorkshire pudding garden, a fish and chip door and beans on toast roof tiles, topped with a roast chicken weather vane.

They say it will be a full size house that people (or maybe one person) can spend time in - measuring 2.5m x 2.5m and 3.5m tall - not that you'd probably want to

“It’s been almost impossible to ignore the spike in orders of classic British dishes since the summer has ended," said Joe Groves from Deliveroo. “The public appear to have rekindled their love for home-grown culinary favourites.”

The edible house will be built in Media City

Deliveroo are offering a select number of customers the opportunity to book some time in the Best of British house for a meal, er ‘on the house’. Anyone who thinks this edible erection is a remotely good idea has until the end of the day to apply here. Those selected will be invited to bring three friends to visit the house and tuck into local Deliveroo favourites including fish and chips and pie and mash.

Spaces are strictly limited and will be picked at random through an online ballot. Anyone in the country can enter here by simply applying for a time slot for breakfast, lunch or dinner on Tuesday 27th or Wednesday 28th November. The ticket ballot closes on Friday 23rd November and spaces will be allocated across the weekend.

Asked whether he thought Deliveroo's idea could solve the city's escalating problem with homelessness, mayor Andy Burnham said: "Don't be f****** daft."*

The Deliveroo house will be situated outside of Manchester’s Media City 112 Broadway, Salford M50 2UW on Tues 27th and Weds 28th Nov.
