Plans submitted for ‘world’s most advanced wellbeing resort’ include pools, saunas and 45m water slides

Fancy winding down at in ‘the world’s most advanced wellbeing resort’ after a day of shopping at the Trafford Centre? You could be doing just that if Therme Group’s new plans are approved.

The wellbeing specialist has submitted an application to build a tropical-themed, warm water resort in TraffordCity - home to retail destinations like the Trafford Centre alongside attractions such as Legoland and Chill Factore.

Comprising a humongous 28 acres, the proposed site is located on Barton Dock Road - between Phoenix Way, Mercury Way and the Bridgewater Canal - and is currently home to EventCity, which would relocate to the building occupied by Soccerdome if plans go ahead.

Developed in partnership with local developer giant Peel L&P, whose extensive holdings include TraffordCity, the ambitious venue will feature four separate areas.

As well as family entertainment and food and drink outlets, the Galaxy and Galaxy Relax area will feature a wave pool, relaxation areas, steam rooms and ‘indoor and outdoor swimming pools’ including 45m water slides.

The Palm area, meanwhile, will encourage ‘peaceful relaxation’ with more indoor and outdoor pools (bloody hell, how big is this place?) alongside mineral baths, steam rooms and water-based treatments. Dining here will focus on health and nutrition.

With a ‘focus on natural themes and biodiversity,’ the design also includes cycle paths and footpaths to open up the area, improving connectivity around TraffordCity and with the neighbouring Bridgewater Canal. Extensive landscaping will include a garden in the shape of the Lancashire Rose.

Subject to approval, the resort is expected to open in 2022.
