Plans are in for a new contemporary café and wine bar

THE Cheshire Smokehouse has submitted a planning application to open a new contemporary café and wine bar in Wilmslow town centre, later this year.

The well-established family business located in Morley Green, outside Wilmslow, promises that this exciting new venture will expand on their ethos of offering ‘real food’ and will continue supporting other high quality local food and drink producers.

Utilising knowledge and experience gathered over 100 years, and four generations of curing and smoking fine foods, the new and independent café and bar, named Smoke, will serve bar snacks, sharing boards and small plates.

Drinks will include a range of the best wines, beers and spirits from both local small-batch breweries and continental specialists.

Many of the dishes will be based around The Cheshire Smokehouse’s own goods produced in their butchery, bakery, smokehouse and kitchen, along with the best local ingredients available from artisan suppliers who adorn the shelves in the Smokehouse shop.

As a long-standing resident of Wilmslow, owner Darren Ward hopes that Smoke will prove to be a hit with new and existing customers who are looking to enjoy a high quality drinking and eating experience in a relaxed environment.

“It’s what the Cheshire Smokehouse is all about” says Darren. “Good food, good drink and good company.

“As a Wilmslow resident, I believe we need quality independents to bring a bit of life back into our town. There has been a few starting up recently, so I say the more the merrier."

Subject to their planning application being approved, Smoke will occupy the two-floor unit on Water Lane currently occupied by the White Stuff clothing retailer. Prior to that, the unit was formerly a wine bar and restaurant called Forty Four.

Unlike the current Smokehouse café, which is closed on Sundays and Mondays, the new café will open all day, seven days a week. It will offer a versatile, seasonal menu ranging from early morning Smokehouse bacon butties with coffee, to after work snacks with drinks, or a full meal consisting of sharing boards and small plates inspired by culinary ideas from around the world.

This continental approach will be the essence of Smoke, whose emphasis will be on a laid back style underpinned with efficient service. The lively bar area will provide the perfect setting for a post-work or pre-dinner drink, while the more comfortable upstairs seating area will be ideal for Sunday brunch or casual dining. There will also be a small outside terraced area for al fresco drinking and dining.

Smoke plans to open its doors later in the year.
