New boutique cinema will feature three screens and a 'Spielburger' restaurant

Boutique cinema group Everyman are to open a new branch inside the ABC buildings on Quay Street.

Scheduled to open in Autumn 2019, the cinema will take on a 10,500 sq ft space and feature three screens plus a bar and a restaurant - named the Spielburger (uh huh, very good) serving burgers and pizzas.

Known for its plush ambience and cosy living room-style seating, Everyman - which first opened in Hampstead in 2000 - is in the midst of a national expansion programme, most recently opening in Altrincham.

Everyman's CEO Crispin Lilly said the opening represented "an important step" for the company. "Manchester is a city steeped in entertainment history," he said, "we can’t wait to be a part of it."

ABC is taking shape on Quay Street

ABC is the new moniker for the reinvented Astley & Byrom House - which developer Allied London purchased from the West Midlands Pension Fund in 2017. Quickly taking shape on the outskirts of Spinningfields, ABC forms part of Allied's 'Enterprise City' scheme, a media and tech focussed cluster within the emerging St John's neighbourhood. The development has already attracted internet giant Booking.com and TV production company The Farm.

Allied London boss Michael Ingall said: "Situated at the crossroads of our two neighbourhoods, Spinningfields and St. John’s, and close to the expanding Castlefield area, it’s great to introduce Everyman and it’s unique style to this part of the city. Everyman is an experience that is especially relevant to what we do and who our developments attract."

Rochelle Silverstein, Allied London's associate director for retail & leisure, added: “Everyman are a perfect fit for our growing community of occupiers at ABC as part of Enterprise City. Their offer gives cinema goers a complete experience and reflects the type of original and quality leisure operators that will cement St. John’s as a destination for culture."

Everyman is due to open Autumn 2019.
