Mann Island Social will open later this month

LET’S face it, what between convention centres and carparks, Liverpool has never quite achieved optimum waterfront appreciation potential from an eating and drinking point of view. But that could all be about to change as bar-restaurant Mann Island Social prepares to open at the end of the month, with promises to be one of the best sun traps in the city.

The people behind Mann Island Social are promising the best food and drink from both sides of the Atlantic

Sitting between the Albert Dock and the Three Graces, Mann Island Social certainly enjoys a stunning setting. It also boasts a large terrace with what General Manager Michael Bird says are ‘fantastic views of the dockside’, and it’s pretty spacious, with 150 covers over 4,000 sq ft. It plans to open early and late every day (Monday to Friday 8am-11pm and weekends 9am to 11pm), the idea is all about eating better and eating together – so that’s the ‘social’ bit of the name covered.

The menu is being revealed slowly via social media until opening, but the people behind Mann Island Social are promising the best food and drink from both sides of the Atlantic. 'The Social Sharer' takes centre stage; it's a packed breakfast tray designed to be enjoyed with family and friends, which features a range of savoury faves and sweet brunch classics plus unlimited coffee and tea refills. The aim is making sure everyone, from meat lovers to vegans, ‘starts the day fed, watered and happy’.

Described as varied, the menu uses the best ingredients sourced from suppliers across Merseyside and includes sharing plates, hand-crafted burgers and salad bowls, and we’ve already spotted the likes of golden crumbed halloumi sticks with salsa and garlic mayonnaise on Twitter, plus buffalo wings served with a blue cheese dip. Sweet treats include the 'Pancake Stack' – drop-fried pancakes topped with syrup, berries and Chantilly cream.

Drinks-wise, the bar will be serving top-quality beers and cocktails. Bringing new life down to the river, Michael Bird says: ‘It’s an exciting time for Liverpool’s dockside, with a range of new restaurants opening this year. We can’t wait to join the thriving scene, and reinvent Mann Island with something unique that everyone will love. Our brunch is something we’re really excited for everyone to try – brunch is the perfect occasion to bring people together, catch up and enjoy great food.’

Keep your eye on social for more sneak previews – and the opening date.
