SAN Carlo has confirmed that it is looking to spread its wings further into Liverpool by opening a branch of Fumo, its highly successful cocktail and all-day casual dining concept.

The news came after the opening of Manchester Fumo, in St Peter’s Square, helped the restaurant group's revenues hit £45.9m in the year to 30 September 2015; up from £39.3m a year earlier.

The business, which is also expanding into the Middle East, was founded by Sicilian Carlo Distefano, who arrived in Britain in 1962 with just £12.

His son, Marcello Distefano, MD of the group, told North West Business Insider: "San Carlo restaurants have performed well in an increasingly competitive market.

“Cicchetti and Fumo brands have shown consistent growth and provide the focus of growth over the coming years.

"New sites are planned for London with others being sought for Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham.”

As for an actual venue Bang & Olufson’s empty Castle Street showroom could soon be rattling to the sound of cutlery.

It is situated across the road from San Carlo which opened in Liverpool in 2010, quickly becoming a favourite place for luxury car owners to park and dine.

It would also mean direct competition for Salt House Bacaro and others in the business district thoroughfare which is rapidly becoming downtown Liverpool’s restaurant central.

San Carlo operates in Liverpool, Manchester, Leicester, Leeds, Bristol and London, There is also a Fumo in Birmingham, a Flying Pizza in Leeds, London's Signor Sissi, and Cicchetti restaurants in Manchester and London.
