There’s more to Italian cuisine than Spaghetti Carbonara

RAGÙ, wild boar sausages, ossobuco... when you think of Italian cuisine, it’s often the meaty dishes that first spring to mind. That’s not to say, however, that this rich gastronomic culture doesn’t also boast some superb dishes for the non-carnivores amongst us.

Vapiano’s specials are a case in point, also proving that you don’t need meat or fish to make a meal interesting. Take their Funghi Bolognese: a delicious ragout of mushrooms, carrots and celery in homemade tomato sauce. Onion marinated with soy sauce and fresh herbs provides the finishing touch to this colourful vegan pasta. Who needs minced beef? 

Prefer a risotto? Try Zucca Caramellata: creamy risotto rice with a homemade sauce of Hokkaido pumpkin, orange juice, coconut milk and hints of vegan white wine, ginger, sesame and lime. Now we’re not vegan but, quite honestly, we’d be tempted to order that anyway. 

There’s even a vegan pizza, Con Cipolle Balsamico. Comprising homemade tomato sauce with fruity balsamic shallots, courgette, aubergine, fresh basil and rosemary, it gives Salami a run for its dough.

Pumpkin Soup, meanwhile, costs just £2.90 for a small bowl and £4.50 for a large: handy for a healthy light meal or lunch.

Much like everything else at Vapiano, all are made fresh on the premises and designed to be enjoyed in light airy premises that bring the Mediterranean to Manchester. Fresh herb gardens provide the seasoning while each dish is made to order right in front of you - and even refined to your liking.
