The rock and indie staple is throwing a party this weekend with massive drinks offers and a special guest DJ

If you’re looking for a place to party this weekend, you might want to check out The Shed Bar. The rock and indie staple is celebrating its tenth anniversary this weekend and it promises to be quite a shindig. Both Friday 30th and Saturday 1st will be dedicated to celebrations, with massive drinks offers and a special guest DJ to get birthday in full swing.

When best friends Richard Hawley and Matthew Jones opened the railway arch bar ten years ago this December, they could scarcely have imagined that the bar would outlast the iconic Cockpit venue to become the go-to rock music hangout in the city. And the size, shape and décor of the venue lend themselves perfectly to the vibe that Shed has been bringing to Leeds for the last decade – along with the occasional rumble of trains passing through overhead.

Drinks-wise, Shed has something for almost everyone. Real ales, craft beer and some super-strong cocktails feature heavily – The Zombie will pick you up, then knock you down. But it’s the whisky list that’ll really make your jaw hit the floor. In fact, for whisky fans, this is something of a hidden gem, with a large range of rarities, including the Macallan 1958 25-year-old Anniversary Malt, which costs several thousand pounds a bottle.

And if you think that you can judge a bar by its staff turnover, then Shed ought to impress you. Mikey Crimmons, the manager, has been in post for more than eight of the ten years, ensuring stability and a consistent vibe that you can rely on. Think Nirvana, the Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Bowie, the Arctic Monkeys, the Rolling Stones and much more. It’s the perfect soundtrack to a weekend.
