The restaurant's first Cheese Week features seven days of events and specials

Basque-inspired restaurant and bar Pintura is paying fromage to one of the greatest foods in the world this week, with its first ever cheese week.

Following in the footsteps of the restaurant’s hugely popular Gin Week, Cheese Week will feature a seven-day dairy, sorry, diary of events including the “ultimate wine and cheese dinner” where head chef Greg Lewis will prepare seven courses featuring some of the best artisan Spanish cheeses available, paired with wines explained and served by Federico Vázquez, export director at J. Chivite Family Estates.

“Cheeses such as cheddar and brie are staple favourites but we hope we can introduce cheese-lovers to some lesser-known and interesting artisan cheeses from Spain. My menu is completely new with one-off dishes that aren’t usually on the menu created and cooked by me, especially for our cheese and wine evening diners.  Guests will also come away having had a bit of fun learning about the different wines to pair with cheeses too.” says chef Greg.

Each courses take the best of September’s harvest of seasonal produce and combine it with the finest Spanish produce, resulting in dishes like smoked Idiazabel fondue, Basque ‘Rarebit’ with Son Mercer de Baix Mahon and Chorizo Iberico, and Traditional Basque cheesecake with boozy fruit and turron crumbs.

As well as their first ever cheese and wine dinner on Wednesday 13 September, there’s plenty of other opportunity to discover and enjoy Spanish cheeses throughout the week, including a selection of cheese-related daily specials, and tasting boards for a fiver so you can introduce or remind yourself to the world of Spanish cheese over a couple of drinks.

Other upcoming dinners at Pintura include November’s Kiwi menu inspired by Greg’s home country, paired with wines from the renowned Esk Valley Estate New Zealand, and to mark International Sherry Week from 6 - 12 November, La Guita Winery will be serving a selection of Manzanilla - a form of fine, dry Sherry which is produced around the seaside port of Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

Ultimate Cheese and Wine Dinner takes place on Wednesday 13 September with tickets priced at £40 per person.  To book call 0113 430 0915 or email info@pinturakitchen.co.uk
