From waxing to relaxing, Jenessa Williams recommends five pamper spots

New Year, New You? Eating well, working out and filling in your mindfulness journal are all well and good, but sometimes what your body and spirit really needs is a proper pamper sesh.

Taking regular time out for treats is high on our beauty agenda for 2018, and with a plethora of salons to choose from, you too can treat yourself on a budget. It’s hard work being this glamorous…

Best for Tans – Q61 Nail & Beauty Studio

When the nearest you’re going to a get to a winter break is a particularly savage ghosting on Tinder, it’s time to get that glow the fake way. Avoid the tanning beds and opt for a spray job in the city centre. Q61 Nail and Beauty Studio ranks highly amongst tan fans for its discreet and professional service without the weird biscuit smell. Taking just 20 minutes and costing £22, it’s the perfect little pick-me-up, open seven days per week.

Best for Nails – Ragdoll Nails

Nothing says #boss more than a killer set of talons. Ragdoll Nails in the Corn Exchange are highly trained in the art of Shellac, Vinylux and Acrylics, with a huge number of customisable options. The basic mani starts at £18, with additional nail art priced by design. Holographic glitter with rhinestone pigments? These are your gals. They also offer a highly-effective rebalance and repair treatment, ideal for those looking to kick their nail-biting habit for good in 2018.

Best for Massage - Rosa Authentic Thai Massage

All that January sales shopping can be exhausting, not to mention the poor posture accrued from a December spent hunched over the Quality Street tub. Get your year off to a good start with an intensive massage – tucked away in Kirkstall, Rosa bases her treatments on compression and stretching, with the bonus of the option to remain fully clothed during the Yoga Style massage.

If you’re cool with getting your kit off, the Tiger balm massage offers divine relief. With the option to choose between a 60, 90 or 120-minute session, you’ll emerge unknotted and ready to tackle the word. Be warned however that Thai Massage is not for the faint hearted – a quick peek of their instagram videos should give you an idea of what to expect.

Facials – Millies

Smooth out your worries in style with Millies, a wellness staple of the city centre. A one-stop shop for a wide array of beauty treatments and health foods, their facials provide particular value for money, starting at just £10 for their express consultation that offers personalised tips for great skincare.

For more problematic skin, the 90-minute Dermalogica facial will steam pores, gently extract spots and apply toner and moisturiser specialised to your skin type. A great entry-level treat for those new to effective cleansing, it’s a solid investment at £55.

Waxing – Allertons

What you do with your body hair is entirely your business, but should you be someone who likes to keep things tamed ‘down there’, you can’t go far wrong with Allertons.

Promising to keep things as pain-free as possible thanks to high-end Lycon wax, there is no body part they won’t de-fuzz, with legs for £29, upper lip for £13.50 and Brazilian/Hollywood’s coming in at a not-too-shabby £23.20.  Men needn’t be left out either – all treatments (aside from intimate areas) are unisex.
